At the age of 19 she was the youngest to perform at the Oscars in 1998. In that same year she was invited to sing at the White house for Bill Clinton on Christmas. She was only 14 years old when she released her first album which went double platinum.

Aaliyah began professionally singing at the age of 9, having a part in in her school play Annie where she fell in love with entertaining. Aaliyah took her craft very seriously. After performing "Ave Maria" in Italian she was accepted to the Detroit High School for the Fine and Performing Arts, where she graduated with a 4.0. She took professional dances classes like ballet and hip-hop, she took martial arts, and she had a dialect coach for her role in Queen of the Damned.

Aaliayh renovated the sound and look of rnb adding a seductive, hip-hop, silky, groovy,

stylish, calm, and sophisticated image. Even though she started as singer, Aaliyah knew she

had a greater purpose. Aaliyah served as a role model for millions of adolescences. Showing how to move with class and grace, but most importantly she preached on loving yourself, and believing in your talents. She was able to master her masculine and feminine energy. Growing up Aaliyah was a tom-boy, wearing baggy clothes, but she always had a hint of girlie. Always having her nails done and lip gloss in her purse. Aaliyah was much of a homebody, who loved to hang with her friends and family. She has a brother whom she was very close to. It was known that her family traveled with her everywhere, photoshoots, music videos, album signings etc. Wherever Aaliyah went her family was sure to follow making sure to provided support, love, and protection.

Aaliyah achieved enormous success having 3 albums and 2 movies. At 17 she released "If

your girl only knew" from her second album One in a Million. The song sold 600,000 copies and peaked at 21 on the UK singles chart. Her hit single also called "One in a Million"

reached number 1 on the US Billboard and is widely considered the best rnb song of all time. Aaliyah became a hot topic during the 90s having done many soundtracks for successful films such as, Anastasia (a personal favorite), Dr. Dolittle, Sunset Park, and Next Friday.

Aaliayh was able to combine the different concepts of musical genres. Taking hip-hop, gospel, soul, rnb, rock, and pop to create a new sound which her fans love and adore. Some of her influences growing up were Sade, Janet Jackson, Jodeci and Gladys Knight, which is her aunt by marriage. Aaliayh was able to tour with Gladys Knight (AKA Empress of soul) when she was a young girl auditioning for shows such as Family Matters.

Aaliyah Haughton's' life came to a tragic halt on August 25, 2001, where the singer died in a

plane crash after shooting for her video "Rock the boat", which is on herself titled album "Aaliyah" also known as "The Red Album", which would sell 13 million copies worldwide, and go 2x platinum in the US and gold in Japan. Aaliayh had been ranked as the most influential and successful artist of all time. Her posthumous album I Care 4 U was released in 2002 selling 280,000 copies the first week.

She was a prophet whose aura spoke volumes on her soul. She was free, authentic, gracious, humble, intelligent, beautiful and an incredible human being, inside and out. Her death struck her fans and loved ones hard. Her music was futuristic and still influences the entertainment industry till this day.
